The significance of Russian language in the modern world

The population census of 2010 in the Russian Federation shows that 142.9 million people live in the coun-try, including 111.2 million Russian (80.9 %); 138 million inhabitants speak Russian (99.4 %). In the Rus-sian Federation there is bilingualism – progressive process in socio-economic and spiritual sphere. Along with the official Russian language in the republics are used second official languages of the titular nations. The Russian language is the official working language of the UN, is widely used as a language of interethnic communication of the former Soviet Union, as well as in many other countries.
