Using poetry in foreign language teaching

The article analyses benefits of using literary texts, particularly poetic ones, in foreign language teaching. Poetry facilitates the process of vocabulary acquisition, increases motivation to read and contains a lot of information on the culture of foreign language countries. The author describes one of the techniques of using poetry, namely dramatization of poetic texts. According to the author, poetic texts help students to master communicative competence, understand the use of linguistic language system and idiomatic phrases in the process of communication, as well as develop creative and analytical thinking.
