Abstract. The art of cultivating ornamental plants largely depends on the ability to choose a nutritious soil or make a soil mixture. The soil requirements depend on the specific plants that will be planted. One of the main conditions is the mechanical composition of the soil. Ornamental plants are very demanding on the soil. For most annual flowering plants, light soil is not suitable, because it is the formation of leaves to the detriment of flowering. Many summers prefer loamy soil with sufficient lime content. The soil for carpet plants should be low-nutrient and well-compacted: such a soil will prevent the strong development of the root system, which will lead to weak growth of vegetative organs. This increases the brightness of the color and relief pattern of carpet plantings. For different plants, you need a soil of a certain structure and chemical composition – sod, leaf, coniferous or heather. Rhododendrons prefer heather land; coniferous plants, liverworts, hellebores – coniferous, etc.
